HISTORY OF CHRISTIAN’S PRIDE SCHOOL:
Lubien Fils founded Christian’s Pride school on January 11th, 2011; one year after a terrible earthquake killed more than 300,000 people in Haiti, leaving thousands of children orphaned. Even before that, many Haitians lived in extreme poverty. Often parents gave their children to someone one else to be “restavèk” (a kind of slavery), just to be fed. So, he founded Christian’s Pride school for the most impoverished families to find an opportunity to educate their children for free. Many use their talents to volunteer and make contributions related to the school.
Since then, the population has considered Christian’s Pride to be both school and home because it’s the only place in Cayes-Jacmel students feel so very happy. The children do not want to leave the school yard. Each time a donation is received, the children are fed. For most of them, this meal they eat at school is the only meal they eat for the whole day.
Since 2021, after the assassination of the Haitian president, things have become harder: Many parents have chosen to leave the capital and migrate to Cayes-Jacmel to find safety from rebel gangs. That’s why many parents call asking to put their children in the school, and no one is turned away. But it’s been a long time since there was a sponsor to feed students, no less to pay any employee.
Lubien pleas, “We really need several monthly sponsors, but one-time donations are also gladly accepted. Any one that can donate even 1USD can help a child to stay at school and not in the street. What would be the future of these children if left to the street?”
ABOUT THE FOUNDER:
Personal history of Founder Lubien Fils:
I grew up as the youngest child with my mother, father, and three sisters. I am married now with 2 children, a boy and a girl. We live in Cayes-Jacmel, Haiti.
My grandfather was a Vodou priest who served the devil, along with both my parents. After some illness, my mother passed away when I was in the 6th grade. I accepted Jesus as my Savior later, when I was 15 years old; but my father did not like that at all. I was obliged to leave his house. I went away to live in a room at the house of a church yard in Jacmel.
My father became ill and died when I was in the 9th grade. Before he died, I preached to him the gospel; but he didn’t accept Jesus.
After some years, my oldest sister died in a car accident. Some bad spirits/devils that my parents served said that they had killed my sister and will also kill me if I don’t come back to serve them, as my grandparents had done. I told the rest of my family that these spirits might kill me; but I will never go back, neither look back. Since then, many people in my area have called me “pastor,” even though I was only 15 years old.
An American missionary came to Haiti to run a mobile clinic around that time. She told me that God put it in her heart to pay for theology school for me (Bible studies). And so she paid for four years for me. I graduated from the Baptist Seminary of Theology of Haiti with a license degree. (Seminaire Baptiste de théologie d’Haïti). Since graduating, I have been preaching 2 or 3 times a month at Christian Evangelical church at Raymond and I am playing piano and guitar there every Sunday morning. I have a Bible club in my zone to lead the kids to serve God as I did since age fifteen.
LIFE AT CHRISTIAN’S PRIDE SCHOOL:
Our school day runs from 8am to 1pm Monday through Friday. More than 78 children are happy to attend! We start out each day with prayer. We teach Bible, English, French, Creole, math, social science, experimental science, introduction to computer, music, and sports. Recess is 11:00-11:30am when the children run around outside, forging relationships for a lifetime. They eat lunch at 11:30 after recess, then reconvene for class.
We currently have no security guards or nurse to teach health. If a child feels sick or is injured, our secretary attends to them.
